Whether riding on the wind as a falcon or hiding in some fetid bog waiting to strike as a beast, Shifters are true masters of the wild. Both a devoted defender and a fierce fighter, most take on the form of an animal of nature or a beast and often fuse them together with devastating effect and unbridled savagery. This allows them to become living aspects of the wild. At first, they are able to assume only a minor aspect, but with time and practice they can fully transform into even more powerful forms. Shifters are capable of reproduction but not infection and are often protectors forging alliances with other races and animals, while focusing their supernatural traits inward to gain control over their own forms. The ability to change their forms at will is as varied as the wonders of the wilds themselves and they always remain at least partially rooted in the natural world.

Most of the Shifters are trained via rituals or initiation. While others stumble upon the gift naturally, as if their blood bore the secrets of transformation. Through contemplation and understanding some Shifters become one with nature through mental and physical mimicry often gaining an ever deeper understanding of the ebb and flow of the natural world. While other Shifters find such enlightenment through more violent means. These are typically quicker transformations, both brutal and painful, imparting the dark lessons of nature through the most catastrophic of their forms. Though they are often the target of fear or aggression by the other races, Shifters tend to avoid confrontation whenever possible, often taking the path of least resistance and best survival.

 

When confrontation is unavoidable, however, they will usually attempt to achieve the alpha position in whatever community they are in, often leading to positions of power within smaller communities or in the local underworld. Shifters are often seen as crude and somewhat barbaric. While it is true that they have some animalistic or bestial instincts within them, this misconception is often propagated by them looking to be left alone. Despite their reserved disposition Shifters are just as smart and crafty as any other race. They are Incredibly self-sufficient and resourceful, as most Shifters learn from a young age that many of the more civilized people fear them for what their ancestors were.

 

Concerning their viewpoint towards the other races, they tend to appreciate them with honor and dignity. Though their relationships with churches, some Shifters tend to tolerate them but are usually avoided by them whenever possible.
